From There To Here

Growing up, I read wonderful novels for such great authors who had a lot in common:

An Elegant style of writing that at times made me fall to the ground laughing, while stealing tears from my eyes at others

And their ability to fly me from my seat straight into worlds of dreams

and put me in the heart of the struggle of a helpless people against its ruthless king..

or in one of the most romantic yet tragic stories ever told..

perhaps live the life of a town over a century of time!

or maybe in that spooky house on the hill that's haunted by ghosts!!

or even be in the middle of the war between Greek gods.

or , or , or...

One more thing they had in common is...none of them was Egyptian.

Not for once did I think about reading for Egyptian authors...

For I thought none of them would be able to capture my mind with his/her writings the way English,

French and Russian literature did , though my father had a library of the finest Egyptian work of literature.

It’s not until recently that I discovered how wrong it was of me to neglect the brilliant productions of the brilliant Egyptian minds.

I read this lately -I can't remember the exact words nor where I’ve read them-:

"It’s a shame to know every bit of detail about the European culture without knowing the simplest facts about our civilisation"

These words got me thinking that it’s about time I gave the Egyptian literature the attention it deserves.

or how great is egypt

how disgusting is egypt

recently more like pornographic (3ala2 el aswany )

NO SCi-FI

No adventure

the history is rarely says new (copy from another copies )
and if someone came up with new , it's style is not catchy (more like thesis )

The only sci-fi novel I read was (ragol ta7et el sefr) for "Mostafa Mahmoud" [no need for me to say it was 90% philosophical]

& I mean, (malaf el mosta2bal) for "Nabil Farouk" could definitely count as sci-fi writings, couldn't it?

(ma wara2 el tabee3a) which Mo2men is obsessed with gr. , that too could be seen as sci-fi I guess

and to tell you the truth, I'm not interested in reading adventure or sci-fi in Arabic

what I'm really interested in is those five types you mentioned at the beginning of your reply.

that is a very...HARSH word to describe his novels

(leaving aside the fact that sexuality exists in western literature)

I haven't read any of his books, and I don't know if you did but I insist it's unfair to call them that.

but again you always have the choice not to read what you don't like.

proves nothing...

"Taxi" was full of cursing still it became a bestseller, moreover, it was praised by "Abd EL Wahab EL Mesiery" himself

look, I'm not gonna get all defensive about "3al2 el Aswany" 'cause I couldn't careless...seriously

but I still won't judge his books until I've read them.

OH COME ON, are you serious?!!

A TYPICAL cliché, which leads me to believe that you've read nothing worth mentioning in Egyptian/Arabic literature

Dude, "Naguib Mahfouz" didn't win the Nobel prize "Kosa"

"Taha Houssein" wasn't called (3ameed el adab el 3araby) for nothing

Search and you'll find.
